1. About these terms
These terms apply to your use of BillChecker.co.uk (the "site"), including the free bill check and the free tools on it. The site is run by Copious Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 11437826), registered office Unit 2a Crown Business Park, Cowm Top Lane, Rochdale, OL11 2PU ("we", "us"). The site is for checking business energy bills. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
2. The service is free
Checking a bill, the overcharge letter, the bill comparison, the solar estimate and the renewal reminder are free. We never ask for payment details. The site is a beta (test) version, so features may change, pause or stop without notice.
3. What our results are, and are not
Our results are an indicative, automated check of the bill you upload, compared with published averages (for example, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero's non-domestic energy prices). They are information, not advice.
- They are not financial, legal, tax or energy-broking advice, and we are not acting as your broker or adviser.
- Averages are averages. The prices you are offered depend on your business, your meter, your usage and the market on the day.
- Solar estimates are indicative only. Any real installation needs a site survey and quotes from a qualified installer.
- The overcharge letter is a template for you to check, complete and send yourself. If you are VAT-registered, speak to your accountant about how any refund affects your VAT returns.
We only give results when the figures on your bill add up, but reading documents automatically can still go wrong. Please check the figures we show against your bill before you rely on them or act on them.
4. Your uploads
Only upload bills you are entitled to use, for a business you run or act for. Don't upload anything unlawful, harmful or unrelated to energy bills, or anything designed to damage or overload the site. Our privacy notice explains what happens to your bill: it is read on our own servers in the UK and deleted before your results appear.
5. Acceptable use
You must not try to get unauthorised access to the site or the systems behind it, test its security without our written permission, use automated tools to submit bills or scrape the site, or use it in any way that breaks the law. We may block access to anyone who does.
6. Intellectual property
The site, its design, text, graphics, software and the BillChecker name and logo belong to us or our licensors. You may use your own results for your own business purposes, including sharing them with your accountant, adviser or supplier. Third-party names and logos shown on the site belong to their owners.
7. Links to other sites
We link to official sources such as GOV.UK, HMRC and university and press pages. We are not responsible for the content of other websites.
8. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law.
Because the site is free and gives information, not advice, and subject to the paragraph above: we are not liable for any loss of profit, revenue, business, contracts or savings, or for any indirect or consequential loss, arising from your use of the site or reliance on its results; and our total liability to you arising from your use of the site is limited to £100.
We do not guarantee that the site will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page when you use the site applies.
10. Law and courts
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, although if you are based in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
